AVRC Announces New Executive Director

The end of 2020 ushered in change of leadership at the Arkansas Valley Resource Center (AVRC). The Board of Directors at AVRC accepted the retirement of long-time Executive Director, Sandra Leonard. They, then, promoted Brooke Leonard from Assistant Director to the Executive Director position.

Brooke has been employed at the agency in a variety of positions over the last 13 years. Prior to her employment with AVRC she held several positions with HoldenMSS, including Training Developer. Brooke began her association with AVRC as a youth by volunteering for various roles and filled part-time and temporary positions for several years until being hired full-time by the Board of Directors. Brooke has many accomplishments, such as she graduated from the Colorado Victim’s Assistance Academy, holds an Associates of Arts in Business and received an Accounting Clerk Certificate from Otero Junior College. In addition, Brooke has spent the last two years mentoring under Sandra Leonard, while following the succession plan the AVRC Board of Directors implemented.

When asked why Brooke was interested in the Executive Director’s position with AVRC, she stated, “I believe that the Arkansas Valley Resource Center provides an imperative service to victims of crime in Bent, Crowley and Otero County. I feel honored to have the opportunity to be part of their mission and have a strong desire to assist people during a difficult time in their life.” The AVRC Board of Directors feels honored that Brooke accepted this position, and they feel that she will build on the success of Sandy Leonard.

Sandra Leonard led the agency for 30 years and her experience and dedication will be missed. AVRC’s staff, volunteers and Board of Directors wishes Sandra the best in this new chapter of her life.
