Healthy and Unhealthy Teen Dating Relationships

February is Teen Dating Violence Awareness Month!

Dating can be a lot of fun, but it can also sometimes be a little complicated. Dating relationships occur on a spectrum, from healthy, to unhealthy, to abusive. It is important to be familiar with what these spectrum patterns can look like, in order to stand up for your personal boundaries and be safe.

Here are 10 signs of healthy and unhealthy dating relationships:

Healthy Relationships

Trust
Honesty
Independence
Respect
Equality
Kindness
Fun
Healthy Conflict
Taking Responsibility
Comfortable Pace

Unhealthy Relationships

Intensity
Possessiveness
Betrayal
Isolation
Manipulation
Sabotage
Guilting
Volatility
Belittling
Deleting Evidence of Abuse

Do you recognize any of these patterns in yours or a friend’s relationship? Is the relationship more healthy or unhealthy?

Dating violence is so much more common than we may realize. On 2/5/2021, AVRC staff appeared on Local Legal Conversation, LLC on News Talk AM 1400 to discuss Teen Dating Violence and what we can do to address it.

Any unhealthy or abusive patterns of behavior in a relationship are not okay, because…

You deserve a happy, healthy relationship!

This February, we challenge you to #KnowYourWorth and help spread awareness and support for Teen Dating Violence. If you, or someone you, know has been or is experiencing dating violence, support and safety options are available 24/7!
